Whether drawing inspiration from trees, light, distance or the figure, I use nature as a jumping off point for my work, finding a connectivity among all aspects of the natural world. I enjoy both abstracting a more representational view of nature, as well as using photographs of natural scenes and object to draw out its more essential personality. I am especially inspired by the vistas of the American West, finding their very nature to be abstract. And the forests and shorelines of the Eastern United States convey for me the perfect relationship between line and light. Light plays an important role in my work, as does high key color. I look for ways to express a joyful celebration of the world around me. My goal is to communicate my love of nature, hoping the viewer experiences the same love and reverence that I do.
